Setting her sights on Hollywood, Rita Rogers performed in nightclub shows from Reno to San Francisco before lighting up the silver screen in Elvis Presley films, as she danced her way into show business.
By the age of 25, Rita than married to her first husband, LeRoy Robert Romero had given birth to three children. Before her children would reach their teens, Rita had acted in dozens of motion pictures and TV shows, and had made numerous stage, radio, and concert appearances since her “Elvis” days, including performing with the legendary night tripper, Dr. John (Mac Rebennack), and with her son Robby Romero.

Taos News: How would have Dennis Hopper celebrated his 79th birthday? It’s difficult to tell but most likely an Easy Rider Ride would have appealed to him. Over 150 riders and a large crowd of fans participated in the second annual Dennis Hopper Day…
“We wanted to commemorate Dennis and his many contributions to Taos,” said Robby Romero. “We had a beautiful day with plenty of sunshine, which made for a wonderful ride. I believe that the spirit of Dennis Hopper was with us and having a great time. ”
2015 Academy Award Winner Patricia Arquette was among the events special guests. “I got to make two movies with Dennis,” she said. “He made the first truly independent film that was very successful, “Easy Rider” which changed the possibilities for independent cinema. He was an incredible person and I am happy to be here to honor him, in this town, his home, a place that he loved so much.”

A screening of “Easy Rider” and costume contest took place at Old Martina’s Hall as part of the commemoration celebration, which also featured music by Robby Romero and Robert Mirabal of Iron Horse. “At any given moment our iconic historical figures are present with us, from Mable Dodge Lujan to Dennis Hopper,” said Mirabal. “It’s good to celebrate the blessings they bestowed on us. They represent the intensity of the Wild West and the freedom of who we are.”

The duo’s first single is named Iron Horse and commemorates the “Summer of the Red Willow’s” historic name change from Kit Carson Park to Red Willow Park by the town of Taos.
House Of Cards is created by Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated show runner Beau Willimon. The critically acclaimed drama stars Golden Globe® winners Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright.
Over two decades ago, Robby Romero created several public service announcements for MTV’s Free Your Mind Campaign. These video clips helped to dispel long-held misconceptions about Native Peoples in Popular Culture.
In the Summer of 2014, Robby approached Robert Mirabal to join him in his effort to convince the Town of Taos to change the name of Kit Carson Park, to Red Willow Park in honor of the Tiwa/Red Willow People who have lived at Taos Pueblo for over 2000 years. Robby and Robert envisioned a musical collaboration that would bring the multi-cultural community of Taos together, culminating with a concert (in the park, of course) and Iron Horse was born.
In January of 1994, Free Your Mind won the Industry’s prestigious CableAce Award.
In January of 2015, 21 years later, the campaign continues but this time, it’s here at home, in Taos.
